Charlie Chaplin – Final Speech from The Great Dictator

Charlie Chaplin – Final Speech from The Great Dictator

I’m sorry, but I don’t want to be an emperor.
That’s not my business.
I don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone – if possible –
Jew, Gentile – black man – white.
We all want to help one another.
Human beings are like that.
We want to live by each other’s
happiness – not by each other’s misery.
We don’t want to hate and despise one another.
In this world there is room for everyone.
And the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone.
The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way.
Greed has poisoned men’s souls, has barricaded the world with hate,
has goose-stepped us
into misery and bloodshed.
We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in.
Machinery
that gives abundance has left us in want.
Our knowledge has made us cynical. Our cleverness,
hard and unkind.
We think too much and feel too little.
More than machinery we need humanity.
More than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness.
Without these qualities, life
will be violent and all will be lost.
The aeroplane and the radio have brought us
closer together.
The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in men –
cries out for universal brotherhood – for the unity of us all.
Even now my voice is
reaching millions throughout the world –
millions of despairing men, women, and little children –
victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people.
To those who
can hear me, I say – do not despair.
The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed –
the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress.
The hate of men will pass, and dictators die,
and the power they took from the people will return to the people.
And so long as men die, liberty will never perish.
Soldiers! don’t give yourselves to brutes
– men who despise you – enslave you –
who regiment your lives – tell you what to do – what to think and what to feel!
Who drill you – diet you – treat you like cattle, use you as cannon fodder.
Don’t give yourselves to these unnatural men –
machine men with machine minds and machine hearts!
You are not machines! You are not cattle! You are men!
You have the love of humanity in your hearts!
You don’t hate! Only the unloved
hate – the unloved and the unnatural!
Soldiers! Don’t fight for slavery! Fight for liberty!
In the 17th Chapter of St Luke it is written:
“the Kingdom of God is within man” – not
one man nor a group of men, but in all men!
In you! You, the people have the power – the power to create machines.
The power to create happiness!
You, the people, have the power
to make this life free and beautiful,
to make this life a wonderful adventure.
Then – in the name of democracy – let us use that power – let us all unite.
Let us fight for a new world – a decent world that will give men a chance to work –
that will give youth a future and old age a security.
By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power. But they lie!
They do not fulfil that promise.
They never will! Dictators free themselves
but they enslave the people!
Now let us fight to fulfil that promise! Let us fight to free the world –
to do away with national barriers – to do away with greed, with hate and intolerance.
Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men’s happiness.
Soldiers! In the name of democracy, let us all unite!

    Happy Charlie Chaplin Day. ๐Ÿ˜…
All the very best….Mr. Akhilesh Yadav ji. ๐Ÿ˜‡

  2. We think too much and we feel too little. We poison our own empathy with modern neurosis, we open ourselves up and allow the cynicism of partisan outlets to dilute our true nature with overexposure to violence and hatred. We allow ourselves to be turned against one another, we allow ourselves to become apathetic for no other reason than our own convenience. Things are better than they've ever been but we still hate and fear and couch ourselves in illogic because it is easier than redeeming ourselves.

  3. "We think too much, and feel… too little. "
Look at his face when he says that, pay attention to that little eye blink that speaks of a deep sorrow.

  8. Incredible speech and incredible foresight given time then and even more so the times now. When will we learn as a species to take better care of ourselves our world and move away from conflict the blame culture. Even now that speech holds so much relevance to us now as it did to the people back then and we seemed to have learned nothing.

  11. Today our general election results came out in India. .India is going through a phase of communal violence and democracy is just a fuss here. .this speech is so relevant today for reviving democracy in India

  12. still listening to this speech once a month to keep moving in the right direction…humanity is more lost than ever

  13. People don't want to hear the Truth … So you wrap it up in Comedy and Say It with a laugh – – – that way The Brutes ignore you & those that have ears hear

  14. Wow so fucking true man has lost its way greed has took an over man's heart people wake up from the Matrix it's time for an uprising it's time for revolution Fight For Freedom or become a slave to the New World Order

  15. The machines are taking over the things that make us human. We are even more glued to these machines than ever. It's just what some of the evil men and woman in the world want. They want us enslaved by our own doing. But who are they? I'll tell you, its anyone in government, Democrat or Republican, who wants to take away some sort of liberty we have and regulate it. It takes a very long time, little by little, industry by industry, tyranny sets in. Each generation is taught to obey in a new way and we are consumed by ourselves.

Don't rely on your gov to teach your kids, hand out food, water, and jobs. That's not American, that's indoctrination, a form of cattle ranching for lack of a better word. That's just the root of our problems. Sad times! Goodluck

  16. There were literally still people being lynched in America when this film came out. And here Chaplin is speaking of equality between blacks and whites. He was ahead of his time

  17. This speech has motivated me to speak against the trump administration and to help all of humanity not just one group I'd starve to death if it ment the starving could be fed i would take a bullet to protect my girlfriend who is shunned in my country for being A Muslim yet I'm a Christian and i thank god every morning i awake to her beautiful face every morning and is able to hold her tight and tell her she's safe and loved

  18. i have listened this speech many times, and my feeling is always maintained, never changed. It's really a masterpiece! ((but sorry for my bad English))

  19. I know it's not pure to bastardize Mr Chaplin's masterpiece with a modern piece of music. But DAMN as powerful as it was by itself, Zimmer can add a touch of ferocious mood to cap off its message! The one thing the wealthy 1%ers and those in charge have on us all is the entropy these powerful messages carry along with them. They die out because we HAVE to go about our busy troubling days which are riddled with complex issues, and sooner or later that powerful message is dissolved into the darkness of our lives – perpetuated by the circus they have put us all in.
We have to have a way to keep the fire burning inside us all, day in and day out. Between the good days and bad. Put a meme on your desktop or phone to remind you to fight for what's right! Might, for Right!…. King Arthur.

  20. A speech that will probably be relevant for the rest of human existence.

It's a shame that if this speech came out nowadays someone would be going "lol shut up you libtard-cuck". Even though what Chaplin is saying, isnt a liberal or conservative thing. It's a human thing.

  21. Charlie Chaplin dies in 1977. But there is a YouTube Channel that claims it was Charlie Chaplin's OFFICIAL channel….. ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”

  22. we need no manipulation and then human is developing like life and good humans…. we want social collaboration and order and peace, a automatic system and we want reproduction it is a automatic process! manipulation is a sin! one GOD! yes the bible

  24. I'm an idealist, just like you, Charlie. If you cannot connect with the passion of his words here, you are truly dead inside. I know this system that has ruled us for centuries now is completely rotten to the core and the task of corrective action is nigh impossible. Does this mean we should lose all hope and reject the light? This is our planet, our home, perhaps our one and only life. We need to awaken and end this insanity. We need to break our chains, and each of us, become the beacon of light we were meant to be. We need to uncover all corruption and purge it from existence. Aid me in this task my brothers and sisters. For all species that inhabit this world. For our planet. For our very souls. Please…

  26. This speech has only grown in relevance as the years and the tears have gone by…. this day….this very day when the tools of war and hatred have embedded themselves, like a wood tick on the grounds of the Lincoln Memorial, where a dictator wannabe unleashes his speech of hatred and division and superiority, and thus shames us all…. Soldiers! Do not give yourselves over to brutes. Men who drill you and regiment you, who diet you, tell you what to think and what to do…. do not give yourselves over to machine men with machine hearts and machine minds!!! …. hearts filled with the hollowness of a machine that can not feel empathy… for only the unloved hate, only the unloved lack empathy…. Thank you Charlie, your words, even as I paraphrased them, speak truth through the decades…… Peace #Tulsi2020
